Transfer paper for light and white colored textiles allows you to transfer images onto light and white colored fabrics, reproducing vibrant colors.
Fabrics need to contain no less than 50% cotton and should be pre-washed (no fabric softeners). Transfers are done easily and inexpensively. No special equipment needed - just transfer sheets, laser printer and a heatpress.
Transferred images are washable without discoloration. Perfect for transferring images to t-shirts for events such as children's birthday parties, hen/stag nights, youth adventure trips, short-term promotions or trade shows.
Instructions:
Printing graphics onto transfer sheets for light shirts:
-
Only Use original toner recommended by your toner printer manufacturer
-
Front load printers- load printable side down ( see 1 above). Top load printers - load printable side facing you (see 2 above).
-
Print on the coated side – matt side. Reverse side has a square print.
-
Set the printer to REVERSE or MIRROR IMAGE prior to printing. (see illustration 1. below) If your printer does not have the reverse print option, it may be necessary to use your software to flip or reverse your graphics.
-
Load one sheet only at a time into the feed tray of the printer. Make sure that the paper is straight and does not have any bent or creased corners. (see illustration 2. below)
-
Size your image before printing. We suggest that you print your image on a plain sheet of paper to ensure that it is the desired size for your project.
- For small images print with highest resolution or in the best quality mode
-
Important: After printing, let the print dry for at least 10 minutes. DO NOT TOUCH THE PRINTED SURFACE. Touching the surface when the print is not dry may damage the coating and the image on it. Handle the print by its edges.
-
If you print more than one sheet do not stack your transfers, instead keep them separated for at least 10 minutes until the prints are completely dry.
-
Drying time will vary depending on the printer, ink brand, ink coverage, and room conditions (low temperature and high humidity can increase drying time).
Preparing your fabric for transfer:
- Iron on flat, hard surface. DO NOT USE IRONING BOARD.
- Preheat your iron 5 to 8 minutes on the highest possible setting (linen setting). DO NOT USE STEAM SETTING.
- Test your iron! Some irons get hotter than others. These instructions are made for an average iron. If the back of your transfer paper starts getting dark yellow or brown while ironing, you should a) move the iron faster across the transfer or b) reduce the temperature of your iron (from linen setting to cotton setting) or c) reduce the total ironing time. You may test your iron by ironing a sheet of white plain paper under the same conditions as for the transfer. Your iron might be too hot if the paper becomes yellowish.
- Cut out non-printed areas
- Place the transfer paper image side down onto your fabric (T-shirt). White or bright colored fabrics are recommended. Make sure the garment is completely flat and wrinkle free. .
- Start ironing: Iron transfer using even and high pressure. Make sure to overlap on all corners and edges. Start on one side of the transfer paper and iron slowly 5 times using body pressure. Use the hot center of the iron to reach to all areas. Next, move the iron a few inches and repeat the ironing procedure by moving slowly 5 times parallel to the side of the image. Repeat this step until every inch of the image has been in contact with iron. The complete transfer time depends on the size of your image. As guideline – iron full page 180 sec, ½ page 90 sec, ¼ page 30 seconds. Usually, irons with steam wholes on the surface may need a longer transfer time.
- It is important to follow the recommended transfer times. If the transfer is too short and the transfer media does not adhere to the receiver material, the image could come off partially or in full during the washing process. If the transfer time is too long or too much pressure is applied, it is possible that the image becomes yellowish and/or the release paper does not release properly.
Remove the release sheet - complete your transfer:
- Let the transfer paper cool down totally.
- Pull lightly on one corner and now peel slowly and with even force the release sheet from the fabric, e.g. T-shirt
- To achieve a sufficient adhesion on the receiver material it is necessary to iron the transferred print once again using the release paper supplied. Ironing with release paper will also reduce the gloss of the transfer and it will give the transfer a more natural, pleasant feel (see illustration 10 – 12). –Place the release paper onto the transfer print. – Iron the transfer for 60 seconds (for one complete A4 sheet 30 seconds for ½ sheet ) using even pressure. Make sure to overlap on all parts of the transfer, especially on all corners and edges. – Never iron an unprotected transfer print. – Before removing the release paper let it cool down completely.
- Your transfer is complete.
Washing instructions:
- Turn the T-shirt inside out.
- With the first time – wash separately.
- Wash in a cool or cold water in a washing machine using a standard washing powder. Do not bleach.
- The T-shirt has to be removed from the washing machine immediately after the washing cycle has been completed.
- Do not tumble dry.
- It is possible to re-iron the transfer after washing and drying with the help of the release paper supplied, but omitting the re-ironing will not adversely affect your transfer: -Place the release paper onto the transfer print. - Iron the transfer for 10-20 seconds – Never iron an unprotected transfer print. – Before removing the release paper let it cool down completely.
